Type II Collagen - Found in hyaline cartilage, the intervertebral discs of the spine and the vitreous humor of the eye.
Type III Collagen - Found in skin, tendons, intestines, artery walls and the uterus.
There is much confusion regarding collagen types I, II and III. The fact is that all three types can provide health benefits. More importantly (and often overlooked) is the collagen source and the manufacturing process.
Types I & III collagen are most often derived from fish (marine), cow (bovine) or pig (porcine) sources. Fish (marine collagen) is widely considered to be the superior form and the most premium source of collagen - but not all marine collagen is created equal. Marine collagen is sourced from various fish species and can be produced from fish skin (low grade), skin and scale (mid-grade) or exclusively from fish scale (high grade). withinUs TruMarine™ Collagen is a premium select grade collagen, produced exclusively from the scales of sustainably sourced fish found in the deep, clean waters of the South Pacific Ocean. TruMarine™ uses a proprietary enzymatic process to produce an ultra-pure form of collagen, which provides superior bioavailability.
Type II collagen is a less popular form of collagen most commonly sourced from chicken sternum.
Note: If a collagen supplement does not list the raw material source it is very likely a lower (cheaper) grade collagen derived from bovine or porcine sources.

How many grams of collagen should I take to improve skin elasticity?

We recommend taking 20g a day to start seeing results.

Do you use any carriers like maltodextrin?

No! Our Bone Broth concentrate is a pure, dehydrated bone broth concentrate that is spray dried without the use of any carriers. Furthermore, the product does not contain any binders or fillers.

Are the chickens free range?

While free-range is a legally defined term, we do not feel that the current definition of free-range is strong enough. We are working aggressively to establish and verify Animal Wellness Certification standards through our entire supply chain. In the interest of full disclosure, the supply chain, i.e. the number of actual farms supplying chickens, while exclusively based in the U.S., is still quite large. It will take some time to ensure that our standards are being met, but all of our suppliers have been communicated with and they understand that we will pay a premium for this certification.

How is Bone Broth Protein™ made?

We rely on high pressure and sustained high heat to expedite the process using chicken bones, which are naturally high in glycosaminoglycans (chondroitin, glucosamine, hyaluronic acid) and connective tissue. Shorter cooking times help to retain nutrients (glycosaminoglycans and minerals such as potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium) often lost when cooked for long periods of time. It is then carefully dried with no added fillers or excipients.

How is collagen made?

Our Beef Gelatin and Collagen Peptides are made from pasture-raised bovine hides. The hides are first cleaned and soaked in hot water to remove the fat. They are then soaked in an alkaline or acid solution to facilitate the release of collagen. After, the hides are cooked in water with a temperature that fluctuates up to 190 degrees, to extract the collagen from the hides. Unlike the Beef Gelatin, the Collagen Peptides are broken down further with an enzyme treatment. The final steps are evaporation and milling, which results in the powder form of collagen or gelatin. The process does not involve high heat and results in a very fresh tasting product.

Does this product contain any ingredients from pigs?

The label indicates the collagen is from bovine (cattle) and chicken. Other ingredients are listed as vegetable cellulose, microcrystalline cellulose, magnesium stearate, and silicon dioxide.
